What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation where the subconscious mind is very receptive to positive thoughts and suggestions. Using hypnosis you can modify your behavior to benefit you by replacing old beliefs or behaviors that you no longer need or want with the new ones you desire. Everyone naturally enters hypnosis several times every day - while watching a movie or TV, when reading an enthralling book, when overwhelmed by a new romance, or while driving (have you ever driven for a few miles without remembering how you got there?).

Hypnosis allows you to tap into your subconscious mind, which is the strongest part of the mind, about 88% of your total mind power. Bypassing the critical factor of the conscious mind and gaining access to the subconscious mind allows us to make transformations in behavior patterns that you can’t do consciously. What is hypnosis like?

Hypnosis is a natural state of physical and mental relaxation that is refreshing and revitalizing. In hypnosis you are not asleep people generally report an experience of intense concentration and awareness. You will hear everything I say and you will not do or say anything that you wouldn’t normally do or say; I can’t make you do or say anything you don’t want to.

In a study conducted by American Health Magazine, the effectiveness of psychoanalysis, behavioral therapy, and hypnosis was compared. It was found that:

  • Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery rate after only 6 sessions
  • Behavioral therapy: 72% recovery rate after 22 sessions
  • Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery rate after 600 sessions

In 1955, the British Medical Association issued a report stating that it approved of the use of hypnosis as a valuable medical tool.  It was also suggested that all physicians and medical students receive fundamental training in its usage. In 1962 the American Psychiatric Association recognized that hypnosis was a viable modality in the realm of psychology.
